Come September, a new season of exploration and expression begins. This is a residency for eight days. So get your mind stretched and body agile. Where? Through deep woodlands of a hundred and forty two year aged estate surrounded by the music of Indian birds.


Led by Dr. Vayu Naidu Storyteller and Novelist, your creative participation will be channeled and stimulated through discussion, readings, observation, reflection time and writing time.


What you will take away in this 8 day Himalayan foothill immersion is material to shape an idea for a blog, travel write, for fiction and non-fiction, even a performative script.

Day 1

Guest arrival from Delhi to Nainital via train ( Delhi-Kathgodam Shatabdi)

Leaves Delhi at 6.00am from New Delhi Railway station


Check In at Abbotsford at 1.00pm


Lunch at our alfresco dining space - Café Chica 1.30pm


Rest a while or walk about around the estate


Gather at 4.00 over tea & cake as Janhavi Prasada, Heritage Owner of Abbottsford and Dr. Vayu Naidu welcome you all to a rich heritage and heralding the festival of creative insights.


Dinner by the warmth of a fire at the charming Rose Dining Hall in the main house.


Days 2-4

A cracking start following an energising breakfast in the Abbotsford lawns with some school-room maps for thinking and good habits for writing with a group and solo followed by:


The Abbotsford Heritage walk led by author and Director of Himalayan Echoes Literature Festival Director, Janhavi Prasada will give you insights into continuing traditions by its owner. This is your source material, observe it in detail.

  • Dr Vayu Naidu will immerse you in THE SCIENCE OF STORYTELLING from the inspirational levers of Janhavi Prasada’s Heritage walk around Abbotsford

These sessions will transform your way of:

  • Seeing and telling.

  • Finding your voice from imagery, shaping characters, past plots and future stories.

  • Re-imagining folk myths and creating contemporary ones in a time of climate awareness.

  • Differences between - performing a story, writing a story.


Days 5-6

  • THE POLITICS OF POETRY WHILE WALKING. Not just a constitutional, but an exercise in how poetry works. The Saria Tal Cemetary Walk & The Botanical Gardens is high content for what you are going to write.

  • You will shape the difference between a short story and a long poem discovering the creation of your signature.


Days 7-8

  • Getting to grips with the making: editing, rewriting, the final shape

  • A performance showcase

  • Farewell

  • Guest departure from Nainital to Delhi via train (Delhi-Kathgodam Shatabdi) leaves at 3.30pm from Kathgodam
