People say the nicest things…

"We have loved our few days at The Retreat. It’s both a haven and a hub. So many lively interesting places are within easy reach but once you’re home and crossing the threshold of that glorious garden, the calm is bottomless – as is the welcome from Vayu and her many helpers. We hope to return."                                          Jim Crace, Novelist, England

"Wonderful sounds  – palm fronds in the sea breeze, gecko lizards around the verandah, fans and cicadas whirring relax your ears to a natural rhythm. I love the calm stone floors that blend seamlessly into one another and that book collection! Chinamma’s amazing food; sleep all night in that huge comfortable bed, do nothing all day. And everything works! Locks fit smoothly together and the keys are functional and there are even nice strong magnets to help the outer doors stay open. What a place! "                                                                                                 Penelope Hackett-Jones, Australia

"What a real (re)Treat for both of us Vayu’s Tamil villa has been... a profusion of colourful flowers and birds, excursions to incredible ancient architecture and brand new buildings too; the Jain temple is an astounding vision of gilt-edged white marble. We’ve taken advantage of the library and had the unusual experience of reading a novel while staying in the author’s house. Chinamma the Cook is welcoming and attentive – a real asset."

                                                                                                                                    Amanda Barratt, Jeweller, England

"Calm, cool house and garden. We were very well cared for. Daily walks and bird-watching were fulfilling – purple seabirds sipping on sexy pink flowers. We felt safe, at peace. Loved reading many of your books, enjoyed the sculpture of Mammallapuram. I recorded 41 species of birds."                                                         Kaye, Writer, Darwin, Australia

"Gracious hospitality in an old world setting."                                                                                                        Vasu, India

"Thank your for this moment of shared peace and beauty. May this house always be what it holds."
